VM Availability is an Azure metric used to monitor the state of your virtual machines (VM). This documentation offers comprehensive guidance on diagnosing potential issues that may occur with this service. It identifies common sources of errors and provides actionable recommendations for effective resolution.

    How Monitoring Works

We monitor for the following metric:

    •  azure.vm.availability.count

Blue Matador continuously monitors the VM Availability metric on your Azure VMs, creating Events whenever the VM Availability changes states. This practice ensures the reliability and efficiency of your Azure infrastructure, promoting seamless operation and timely response to any availability issues.

Common Errors when Monitoring VM Availability

When monitoring Azure VM Availability, sometimes your VM may become unresponsive and various issues may arise, affecting the reliability of the monitoring service. Below are common errors and their potential resolutions.

    Possible Causes

    • Network Connectivity Issues
      • Ensure that network configurations are correctly set up.
      • Verify that firewall rules allow inbound and outbound traffic to the VM.
      • Investigate Azure's network infrastructure for any disruptions or maintenance activities.
    • Disk Space Exhaustion
      • Check disk usage on the VM to identify any space-consuming files or logs.
      • Remove temporary files, log files, or unused applications to free up disk space.
      • Increase the size of the VM's disk if necessary to accommodate additional storage requirements.
    • Resource Exhaustion
      • Keep track of CPU, memory, and disk usage to identify resource-intensive processes.
      • Optimize applications and workloads to reduce resource consumption.
      • Increase VM size or add more instances to distribute the workload and prevent resource contention.

By adhering to these troubleshooting steps and routinely monitoring your Azure VM Availability with Blue Matador, you can adeptly manage and optimize your virtual machine resources. This practice ensures the reliability and efficiency of your Azure infrastructure, promoting seamless operation and timely response to any availability issues.
