Provisioned IOPS volumes (io1) provide a consistent amount of IOPS for IO-intensive workloads.  Provisioned IOPS volumes are configured to deliver a certain amount of IOPS and are expected to deliver within 10% of the configured amount for 99.9% of the year.  Blue Matador detects when throughput is lower than expected so you can correlate this event with any issues on the volume.

Degraded throughput performance can cause issues when you actually need the full level of performance configured.  Slow reads and writes are both side-effects of degraded throughput performance.

    Possible causes include:

    • Creating a snapshot during peak usage
    • Running the volume on a non-EBS-optimized instance
    • Accessing data for the first time
